It’s the single greatest influence and driver of modern life. And still, large swaths of our communities lack reliable internet access. So we were thrilled to brand and launch GetConnectedSC, a statewide public education program from the South Carolina Office of Regulatory Staff to expand broadband access to every citizen.
Our work began by listening to the people who are most affected by the lack of high-speed internet. We deployed Video Diary Teams in underserved areas of the state to capture their stories, shedding light on the many ways people are impacted by the digital divide.
GetConnectedSC officially launched with a joint press conference hosted by Governor Henry McMaster and Congressman James E. Clyburn. Our public relations team directed the entire event, including run of show, advance and post-event communications with the media, and briefing materials for key speakers. The launch event was immediately followed by a visit from Vice President Kamala Harris in support of the GetConnectedSC initiative.
We generated communications to support a 26-stop Community Listening Tour to gather more feedback from people on how their lives are impacted by “no or slow” internet. At the same time, we deployed a targeted communications campaign to encourage people in underserved areas to complete the Better Internet Survey. Survey results served as the primary data source to inform the build-out of high-speed infrastructure.
